REM Hopscotch chalk big squares on the pavement 8 I think throw your stone on the square and hop to the square if both feet touched the ground you had to start again , we used to pinch the chalk from school , yea in those days it was a blackboard and a wooden rubber the teacher used to throw it at us if were weren't listening he was a good shot , do that that nowdays and it would be abuse .
Marbles we used to play but then started to collect them see who could get the most colourful one if we had one somebody else wanted we would sell them for a penny sweets money !!!!
Jacks a little red ball and grey coloured double cross things you threw , then threw the ball up and pick up as many jacks and catch the ball if the ball hit the ground you were out .

ah marbles! i was just talking about this the other day with someone. i remember 2 games we used to play with marbles.

the first we used to draw a circle on the floor and put our marbles in the middle and use our "shooter" to try and knock as many marbles out of the circle as possible. you kept the marbles you knocked out.

the second we used to play on those drain covers with the sticking out squares and use one marble each, you would take turns to flick your marble along the grooves to try and hit your opponents marble whilst at the same time avoid being hit. this was the quicker game so we could get it over nice and fast before the bell rang

We didn't play hopscotch but BEDS. It was 3 rows of 3 squares with an arched shape at the top. The squares were numbered and you slid a round tin of shoe polish into the first one missing the chalked lines. You hopped round the sqares in sequence moving the tin with your foot into the next one. The object was to get the tin round all the squares and back to beginning without touching the lines with your foot or the tin. Then you started again sliding the box into the second square and so on. We didn't use chalk though. Mothers then used to whiten the edges of the steps with a thick block of whitening so we used remnant pieces of that.
Used to play marbles and the rest as well

I remember all those too. Marbles and Jacks, spent hours playing with these and had some really pretty marbles. Hopscotch too up and down the pavements, there were always chalk lines outside our house lol. Thats a good variation Hannah, I've not heard of that one, but sounds the same as HS.

Tell you another thing I spent hours at which you don't see nowadays, skipping!! We were always out the front armed with a length of rope or linen line. One on each end, over and over with the rope, friends jumping in and out singing all sorts of songs, Which I've forgotten

I actually broke my arm playing this lol, I jumped in did a skip and ran out the other side playing this certain game and tripped over the rope onto the road, thus fracturing my arm *sob* lol...and if no mates around, then you'd just skip alone! Or tie one end to a lamppost if there were two of you.

I saw on the news a few months ago about a girl who got into trouble with the Police for drawing on the floor with chalk so she could play Hopskotch

We used to play it all the time, aswell as curbsie!
