Another fave that my dad was always making for us, was stilts. He get two posts and attach a block of wood on each to stand on, and off we went!!! We used to have stilt races up and down the pavements and often came a cropper. The wood leaving splinters in your hands often lol but who cared, we were king of the world on those!! Did anyone else make them? Never see them about either nowadays.
Another thing we'd do was get empty baked bean tins, and dad would attach (if we had any at that time) string to them. Then we would walk on the cans holding the string and pulling up as we did so...all great fun!!!
