council tax billWell today we got our new council tax bill in for the this year.
which has now gone up to £122. PER MONTH that is for band C. and based on house price of £68.000.
My house is now worth nearly £200.000(had it valued last summer), so if they do go ahead a re-evaluate properties , i really don't know what we would be paying , but i know for sure we could'nt afford it.

i say bring back poll tax!! i live on my own, so yeah, i get (i think) 25% off council tax, but i'm sure i'd be better off just paying for me & not the household.

Gawd I'm bracing myself for it. We are in the cheapest band, whatever that is, and I think it's an horrendous amount of money to have to find every month. Its bad enough with leccy and gas bills going up, but at least you SEE where that money is spent, you never do with CT !! Bet half of it goes to refurbishing counsellors kitchens

I got mine yesterday I'm so glad I'm in band A, even though I still begrudge it, I was surprised it had only gone up £4 per month to £94. Still a lot of money for not seeing anything.

We got ours yesterday too and we're in the same band as Debs. We don't have this back in Northern Ireland n I nearly had a fit when i opened it till i realised what it was !

We had a rates bill back in N.Ireland and it covers everything water,roads,bins etc. but it would only be about 300quid a year not nearly a 1000quid !

I used to love the rates and didnt mind paying 300 quid per year, youre right Shirley 1000+ is way over the top!!

i remember the rates too what makes me angry is they could afford to do everything they needed to on 200 pound or so a year, but they now charge us over 1000 and still say they havent enough money.i think better budgeting on their part would help

% charge change from last is :
soton city council £913.48 +3.5%
hants police authority £105.42 +8.1%
hants fire authority £45.29 +3.09%
£1064 19 +3. 9%
police and fire authority I don't mind it's the council what do they spend the money on , oh yea new kitchens, travel expenses ah , business lunches . I'll be lucky to get a 2% wage increase
