I remember when I was around 11 I wanted a 'Baby Alive' for my Christmas pressie, this was the new doll out that actually ate, special food and pooped it out the other end lol. My parents couldn't afford one of these, and got me a Tiny Tears instead. Gawd I loved that doll, it was SOOOO baby like, and when you fed it it's bottle of water, you then had to hold it up and squeeze it's tummy. This created some suction and the doll actually cried REAL tears pmsl, not ONLY that, it wee'd too! woohoo double life like !! My nan used to knit matinee coats and booties and everything for it awww and it had blinking eyelids

One odd thing was its hair was blonde and curly all over, except for the bit at the back of the crown area which instead was about 2 inches long and straight and silky...I always wondered why, not sure now if it was to represent where babies rub their hair off?

I remember when you bought me a Tiny Tears for my Birthday, I was soooo chuffed, and I always wondered about the bit of hair too

I can remember wanting a Cabbage Patch Kid, and Dad went to America and came back with the cheap version a flower patch kid, just wasn't the same, then that same Christmas, our Auntie who lives in America sent Jodie and I a real Cabbage patch kid over, we had one each, we were ecstatic !!! Mine was called Fiona, you even got adoption papers with them and everything!!! Ive still got mine

I used to love my Cindy doll too, most people had Barbies, but I thought Cindy was much classier lol. I used to love her eyelashes, that were like little brushes sticking out of her plastic face. I used to save my money and go buy her outfits from Rowlinsons sports/toy shop in town. She had the cutest little rubber high heels, that I always seemed to loose

I spent many an hour dressing her up with my mate Irene who had the dark heaired version of my blonde one

i wasn't really into dolls much i remember having a tiny tears as well but didnt play that much with her..i was more a teddy bear girl ...i had millions of em...my fav was Bedtime Bear i was a little old for him but loved my Care Bear he still lives with my mum tho a little faded n ragged now

I also remember from my childhood, a series of dolls that were smaller than Barbie etc, only around 6 inches tall. I had a couple one was called Pippa, from what I remember she had coloured skin and blonde hair. Can anyone else remmeber these?

I rem having a doll called Theresea or Tessa her hair grows , not sure if it was one of the Pippa collection anyway she had dark hair and you had to push abutton in her belly to make her hair grow , I really wanted a Sindy doll but poor old santa got confused !!!
Cabbage doll's came out when my kids were youngin's never liked them so ugly .

I think Tessa was the poor mans version of Barbie I vaguely remember having one too with a huge button you had to push for her hair. Mine was probably a second hand one or someone gave me it, because I can;t remember it new. I'll try find a pic later.

Did anyone have a walkie talkie doll?

I remember when I was about 5 getting one, it was nearly as tall as me lol and she had beautiful blonde silky hair. She had a string with a little ring pull coming our of her back, and you'd pull it and she would talk. I can't remember her name, but she would say, 'my name is *****' and 'I'm tired'. etc. She was the coelest doll ever !! To get her to walk, you'd have to hold the tops of her legs or something and she kinda walked ..not very well from what I can remember lol

I loved dolls when I was a kid - baby dolls - NEVER Barbie. My favourite was a doll that "drank" from a bottle, than peed!!! (Wetsy Betsy??maybe).

If I ever become a collector, my item of choice will be dolls (though they can be a little spooky...)

I once knew a demented woman who kept a life-size doll and treated it as an actual baby. She was really quite demented--had me buy baby food and tampons for baby!!!

I had a doll that drank and needed burping before she peed....burpy doll? lol I don't recall the name... I remember my grandpa made a nice swinging crib for her awwwwww ...

you had to fill the baby bottle with water or milk and feed it to the doll....it would take a bit to go thru her...so you had to hold her on your shoulder and pat her back to burp her lolll then she would let out these enormous belches.... but before you were ready or had time to change her diaper she would start peeing out the water or milk!!! LMAO a lot like the real thing then!

i watched a programme the other week on women who bought dolls and treat them like real babies, tooke them out in prams and everything.
http://www.reborn-baby.com/. i find that utterly disturbing. one woman, she was a grandmother who'd been like a childminder for her grandson until her daughter emigrated, so she had one made as a replica of him when he was a newborn. when she went to collect it she put it in a carseat and everything. Weird!

The woman I referred to is long dead. Made sense to me though (except the tampons!) - gave her "somebody" to love and care for. This woman was faaarrrrrr past being able to care for real babies!

Yeah the tampons is kinda hard to fathom, and I suppose youre right, some people just miss having babies and need a substitue.

Seeing an advert reminded me of another of my childhood faves. Can you remember those carboard cut out dolls. ? That wore paper cut-out clothes, with the little fold over tabs that you would dress yours up in? They were really annoying, and the clothes would never stay on, the slightest breeze leaving your doll wearing nothing but her painted on undies lol. They were often printed in comic books for you to cut out. Can't imagine the kids of today being bothered with them !! lol
