Keeping up with the timesScott asked for one of his birthday pressies to be the new electronic Monopoly. He'd been playing it at a friends house, and we all love the original game so I got it for him. I was a bit skeptical as to wether or not it would be as much fun - but it is! The board has a new design, same basics, but instead of railways it has airports. The utilities are satellites and telecom. The streets you buy are the same values from poor to rich, but different names.
Instead of paper money flying everywhere, you each have a Visa card, and there is an electronic central unit you put your card into, to deduct fines and add bonuses etc. When you land on someones street and have to pay rent you put both theirs and your card in the unit and it will deduct from yours and add to theirs. Its really simple but brings a whole new element to the game.
I'm not usually one for 'change', but in this instance it's a change for the better! plus the board folds up smaller so you havent got to store a giant box like the original one 
Anyone else seen any games that have updated to the 21st Century and kept their original charm? or the reverse?

i don't know anyone who used to play monopoly 100% by the rules, we used to do everything except the paying taxes for selling hotels/houses (i think, it's been a while), but the electronic one sounds as though it would work it all out for you - cool! i might buy myself one, then i'll have to buy some friends to play it with me.
and another thing... last time i played monopoly, people moaned i was buying everything i landed on... umm, DURRRRRRRRR! it's friggin called "monopoly" there's just no hope for some cretins.

I do that too! We have a rule that when you have to pay supertax or fines of any sort, we put the money in the middle, and whoever lands on Free Parking takes it all
