I love 'old school' metallica - LPs/EPs kill em all, ride the lightning, and master of puppets and justice for all... killer riffs and rhythm changes...
My 10 favorite metallica songs:
1. ride the lightning
2. creeping death
3. welcome home (sanitarium)
4. enter sandman
5. fade to black
6. seek and destroy
7. one
8. nothing else matters
9. For whom the bell tolls
10. last caress/green hell (glen danzing cover Garage days re-revisited)
RIP cliff burton

dintrox your favourtie songs seem to all be the older songs, some of them are brilliant though!
me and metallica i prefer alot more of their newer music such as:
Fuel
Whiskey in the jar
Some kind of monster
St. Anger
I Disappear
love all them lol, on my ipod i have Metallica discography, which is every song they have ever released , its alot of music for one artist, but this new album they are releasing is going to be a make or break for metallica, and i really hope its as good as their others , wooo go James Hetfield (i think thats how you spell it)

For me the best metallica is before their black album produced by bob rock. Prior to that album that brought us enter sandman and nothing else matters etc.. Metallica was a cult band with deadly rhythm changes and pounding percussion...
It may also do with the fact that the eighties albums that I mention remind of my high school years ( my youth).. I'm climbing up there in years (soon to be 38 WAH ... 20th high school reunion this year WAH).. The albums/EPs were very raw not overly produced and energetic... The sound was new soon to be imitated and added to.
Today... metallica is about selling LPS, self help gurus, and maturity... Then it was about giving a good show, excess, and youth....
