Morning from hell

Well we all have mornings like this I'm sure, but we really could do without them *sigh*.

Shopping today, so I decided to defrost my freezer before loading it up. So left it to defrost whilst I did the weekly shopping. Tescos was heaving unusually, after that I went to pick up some work trousers for hubby from the other side of town. Driving home along the busy main road 2 lanes going my way, one lane oncoming.

I was in the middle lane to get to my destination doing around 35 mph, came over a hill and a little way up saw a car in the left lane, and in front of that some sort of trailer carrying industrial type machinery being pulled by a landrover, had stopped. I carried on driving thinking whats up here, and had my eye on the jugonaut that was turning into the oncoming lane. As I got level with the landrover, he decided to turn right, across my lane, OBVIOUSLY NOT SEEING ME. !!! . I swerved, as you do, but he caught me full force, on my back wheel arch, ripping the back end of my car off along with my bumper. I was gobsmacked.

I pulled ahead and out of the way and he followed me. Of course I got out of the car in disbelief and said 'didn't you see me   ' to which he replied no...he said he was looking at the other traffic, and because of his trailer had to turn from the left lane, across the other two to get where he was going. Theres a bloody roundabout 200 yards up the road, why he didnt go round that to be on the right side for his turning instead of trying to cross two lanes I'll never know!

He was very apologetic, gave me his insurance details, his business card etc, and admitted it was his fault 100%. A passing car also stopped, and a fella ran up to me and gave me a piece of paper with his phone number and told me he would be a witness for me if needed, I thanked him. Because my bumper was hanging by some metal, the bloke had to cut it off so I could put it in my car to drive home...funny looking back on it now lol

I phoned my insurance and reported it. Then his insurance phoned to say their client had admitted liability and had set wheels in motion to get it sorted, and I could have a courtesy car for 14 days from them, which is something. Trouble is, my car is about 10 years old and the amount of damage, theywill more than likely write it off, and although we paid £1000 for the car and have spent loads on it over past two years, I can see them offering us very little for it, so I'm waiting for that bombshell

Luckily I wasn't hurt, luckily he caught the back end and not the front where I'd have been injured, luckily when I swerved there wasn't anything oncoming because 10 seconds later I'd have had a head on with that jugonaut....I know I shouldnt think like that, but it makes me feel someone was looking out for me.

To top it all, because I was such a long time, when I got home I had a lake on my kitchen floor from my defrosting freezer ffs, did I need it! lol

I thought I'd share this to make you all feel youve had a good day

Golly what a day you have had -XXXXXXXXX

Make them pay up enough to get you another car - tell them your car may have been older but it was serviceable and on the road and you will not settle for less

What a day Deb! yeesh! What a dolt that driver was but at least he admitted liability and promptly did the right thing with the insurance. Some don't! At least you don't have to deal with that headache too. Maybe you'll get a nicer car out of it too

(I had to laugh out loud picturing you driving home with ur bumper hanging out the back window after the guy disassembled it so you could take it home lol   ) I know....not funny !!!
Glad ur okay hon xxx hope tomorrow's a better day

Glad your ok , divine intervention happened there, btw go read your "reading" on PA that sadie has posted, i think you will be surprised!

Dosn't matter how old your car was you still deserve a decent amount back and like others say dont except first offer. . btw that man was a prat.

Thanks for all your kind words

lol@ Kris picturing that!! It nearly happened too, but luckily we got it in length ways pmsl!

I've luckily kept receipts of work we've had done on the car in the last 18months, which totals to over 500 quid, so I will make sure they know about those !

Will keep you  informed of progress.

Btw, the courtesy car was a beautiful Mondeo, on last years plates, I picked it up after 3pm last night, and did nothing but worry about it all night lol..worried if the kids would dent it with a football, or scratch it etc, so decided I could do without the added stress of a 250 excess fee for damage, so I took the bugger back this morning at 9am lol!
