My tailbone

For the past few months its been giving me agony, i cant sit on a hard chair without getting bad pain, sometimes even the softest seats provide pain, although i'm ok lying down, walking, running, exercising its just sitting on it, the only injury i can recall was at school a few years back was when a kid pulled my chair back as i was about to sit down and i landed on concrete floor...but why would the pain occur now?
sometimes i could cry in pain, it sticks out so much aswell, i've also lost weight in my teens and i've gone down from a size 16 to a 6-8 would that cause anything?
its even hurting now

It really is horrendous pain Stacey, I do sympathise . Heres something I found on the net , like it says, its best to get a doctor to diagnose it.

What is coccydynia?
Pain in the area of the coccyx (tailbone) is called coccydynia or coccygodynia (or sometimes a variety of other spellings). Coccydynia can be anything from discomfort to acute pain, varying between people and varying with time in any individual. The name describes a pattern of symptoms (pain brought on or aggravated by sitting), so it is really a collection of conditions which can have different causes and need different treatments.

Coccydynia can follow after falls, childbirth, repetitive strain or surgery. In some cases the cause is unknown. The pain can disappear by itself or with treatment, or it can continue for years, and may get worse. It is five times more common in women than men, probably because the female pelvis leaves the coccyx more exposed. It appears that in most cases the pain is caused by an unstable coccyx, which causes chronic inflammation.

Medical trials have shown that coccydynia can be cured eventually in the great majority of cases, given the right treatment. However, finding a doctor who can do a proper diagnosis of the condition and supply effective treatments is difficult, and many people suffer years of pain.

and wow that must of been so painful you poor thing    i think i need to stop complaining about my pain!

Well if you get it diagnosed by a doc, at least its a thought if it doesn't settle down, to find an Osteopath that will manipulate it for ya lol..something to look forward to! Sometimes these things flare up for no reason, and disappear on their own accord just as quickly. Fingers crossed it does! and soon lol

Fingers crossed ....a bad pun Deb! lmaoooo

Stacey it could be that when you had your fall a few years back you broke your tailbone and when it healed it fused in an angulated position which would later cause problems as you grew. Our bones grow until we are about 18-19.
I would do as Deb suggested and have it looked at by a doctor who may do an x-ray or an MRI.
Taking lots of vitamin D and calcium supplements will help too. I know.. it isn't fun is it

oh dear, i just realised got my height checked a few months back and i've only grew 3cms in the past 3 years...would that be to do with it? im 17 so i thought i'd be growing more
i think i best see my gp as he's great, best to get it sorted before its too late i guess
Serenity

Always best for a docs advice Stacey. As for not growing, your tailbone wouldn't have anything to do with that, I reached my height when I was about 15 going on 16, and grew no more.  Not everyone sticks to the rule of keeping growing till around 18, many stop before hand which is a good job seeings Mart is so tall lol...he stopped a while back too!
Littlemiss

thank god for that i thought i was short because of that then *relaxes a little*

i really do panic too much though!
Serenity

lol when you get old like us, you'll know all the answers and wont panic so much, I promise lolol!

Don't know about that one Debs - Nan's a right hypochondriac!

I would agree with Kris about the possibility that you have damaged or cracked your tailbone when you had that fall on concrete.  This is why I never find it funny when someone pulls a chair away when someone is gong to sit down- See a doctor since you are obviosly in a lot of pain - a great many things can be done nowadays
Littlemiss

awww at the nan thing!

yeah people dont see the damage they could do
i'm gonna book an appointment to see my doctor as soon as possible as its got to the stage where the pain cant be ignored i'll post the result - fingers crossed it can be sorted easily
Amber

I believe you have either a cracked or chipped tail bone , i think you will need to have either x-ray or scan and it will get soretd soon.
