Seaside

Was just thinking how lucky we are living only twenty minutes car drive to our nearest beach. It's great to take a drive there, grab a bag of chips and have a walk along the promenade. Obviously well wrapped up this time of year. Then during the warmer months, going there in the evening and watching the sunset over the water. I suppose not everyone is as lucky as us, especially those living in the States, Canada etc. It's fantasitc to walk along the sand barefoot, taking in the sea air, and the smell of fresh donuts being cooked along the seafront.

Does anyone else live as close to a beach as us? If not , do you have a special place you like to go, to walk, sit, take in the whole experience?

ohhhhhh i do like to be beside the seasideeeeee

well, the beach starts at the bottom of my street, so its like a 2 minute walk away, and i wouldn't want to live anywhere else.  i absolutely ador being able to walk along the prom whenever i feel like it, and theres nothing like walking it in the dark in the middle of winter, especially when its really windy and high tide *sigh*

I miss the beach...haven't been to one since the summer before last in Australia. Aussie beaches are soo beautiful!

Donuts along the seafront?? That sounds an odd place for donuts..

the nearest beach to me is about1/2 hr drive away not the best of beaches stones but from there you can see Isle of Wight  I to love going to the beach on cold winter nights sat on the prom and watching the waves crashing in , quite often go there when I need time out , the brisk cold wind so refreshing , don;t go so much in summer as the youngsters get down there with there loud music , bb and drink and the cost to park is terrible something like £1 for half hour .

We Canadians have our seaside too. We border on three Oceans..

"Canada has the longest coastline of any country in the world. The coastline includes the mainland coast and also the coasts of offshore islands. The total length of Canada's coastline is 243 042 kilometres." -- Atlas of Canada

I went to University in Victoria, BC. The beach was a short five minute walk from campus. I miss the ferry ride from Vancouver Island to the Mainland especially in summer..  Always great for viewing marine life such as seals, sea lions, and killer whales..

We used to live in British Columbia on Vancouver Island along the west coast and were only a few minutes away from the beach. I loved the smell of the ocean and strolling along the walkway. I do miss it so. we've since moved to northern Alberta which is the Prairies and pretty cold and dry. We have rivers and lakes tho. Including Lesser Slave Lake which we live near and is the largest lake in Alberta. We do hope to get back to the west coast and enjoy the ocean and beaches and climate again soon tho.

can" t do quotes  bah
reply to Imblonde   Gosport down the motorway from me , the beach I was talking about is in the opposite direction , Calshot and Lepe   have you been there ?
Serenity

To do a quote ju, you simply go to the persons posts you want to quote, look in the top left of their post box and it says 'quote' in a little bubble, just click on that and it will bring a new post box up for you with their quote already in it. You then write what you want to and hit submit

In the USA Steph, where do you buy your donuts from?

Thanks Serenity but that's what I've been doing and it quotes the whole lot not just a sentence .
Serenity

ahhhh I get ya! Sorry hunni....then you just need to copy and paste the sentance, and add
to front and .....
to back , but in the back one, put /quote inside.   (I cant do it or it will quote lol) the / means close, so its effectively it's close quote . Does that make sense? lolol
redhead

. Does that make sense? lolol
had a go and bingo ,

redhead, when you click the "quote" button on someones post, just delete the text you dont want and keep the sentence you do. as long as you keep the

sections it should work... see my example

We buy them at all the places Steph mentioned and also at famous franchises like Tim Hortons, Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts. Do you have those there?

i mean something like this! we have small stalls along the beaches with smaller versions of these machines
knewlove

Oh yes, we have those portable vendors along our beaches and parks and at carnivals here too...more common tho are hot dog/ice cream stands.

I know in Europe it is different. In Paris, I remember they had booths set up everywhere selling crepes, donuts, souvlaki, Egyptian food, Indian food, you name it! Rotiserries and brasseries and patiserries of all kinds everywhere!  Just wonderful
daxxxx

the one that's fried, has a hole in the centre and covered in sugar are called gravy rings back in Belfast !

We only call the whole, solid ones with jam in them donuts.

Dunkin Donuts opened loads off branches in Belfast years ago but no1 was interested in them ..lol we seemed to prefer the fried holey sugar ones and they never sold many of the other kinds lol

Has anyone in England been to Southend-On-Sea? That's where I originally come from. We lived in the suburbs but my Nan lived 2 mins walk from the beach. Right opposite the old Kursaal and the Scenic Railway. When we were visiting Nan all we would hear would be the screams from the people riding that thing LOL.

We moved to Australia back in 1966 and lived in the northern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. Our closest "nice" beach was about 1/2 hour drive away so on a stinking hot day we would look forward to going to the beach and wading through the seaweed and burning our feet on the hot sand, cooling off in the water and getting stinking hot again on the return trip home although this time covered in sand so you got itchy and generally felt yucky by the time you got home. No air cons in cars those days. Mum and dad made this a weekly thing those days, no wonder I hate the beach now!

I now live 10 minutes away from a beach called Christies Beach. It is one of the nicer beaches here. Hubby and I went a couple of times when I first moved here but we just don't now. I think we take it for granted that it will always be there LOL.

Beach Road here reminds me a bit of Southend seafront although nowhere near as big. I remember the smell of the chips cooking and yes the doughnuts, the candy floss (they call it fairy floss here) the sticks of rock, the cockles etc. Although I was only 10 when I left England I can still see it in my mind when I think about it. Great memories!!
