vehicle breakdown coveri've only used my breakdown cover on a car once. i was bombing up the M1/A1 near St. Neots when i blew the head gasket ("f*********!"). after hours and hours of waiting, eventually had my car put on back of lorry & dumped in my drive-way.
i recommend drivers to have some sort of breakdown cover, especially if they make frequent long trips. but the cost is getting stupid!!!
last year my AA roadside & recovery renewal came through at about £80 (?), this year... £96!!! why anyone would accept this is beyond me. last year i rang head-office & asked them to do me a better deal (i got about 25% knocked off ), this year i'm gonna do the same, i'll let you know how i get on... what's most annoying though, is that they offer new members a low price, & hike up the price for existing customers - threaten to leave & you'll fast get the same offers

It's all wrong when companies increase prices when you have been with them for more than a year. You would think that existing customers should pay a little less and the new ones should pay the extra and perhaps people would stay with them instead of moving - seems common sense to me.
I used to pay AA every year for my car because my son got the complimentary cover through my husband's car but since my son is working away from home now I have the complimentary cover so pay nothing but everything nowadays concerning cars is expensive and you do need coverage

That annoys me too Skippy, I've never had cover, but then I don't go far, and have plenty of bro in laws etc to give me a tow if needs be lol I hate it when you pay full price yet new customers get a reduction. I phoned AOL once to say I was changing because of this, and they soon lowered my price. I think if you sit back and pay it then they are happy to take your money, you do really need to haggle, but its just confidence isn't it. When I get on the phone, I can be right cheeky, but I think to myself, they don't know me, they can't see me, and I've often gotten better deals for things

I actually have a friend working for the AA. that's why i rang up last year to get a reduction. coz he wanted to please his boss (& get commission) by getting me to cancel renewal, then sign-up through him again. his would've ben about same price as what they offered me, so i just continued the cover. i still ain't rang them yet...
