Your first car

All this talk about driving and cars has made me wonder what everyones first car was. Shortly after I passed my test, Paul let me have his car to get to work etc, and he had my moped. I'll have to see if I can find a pic of it, but it was a blue Allegro. WOW lmao....I thought it was so cool, it had the back jacked up so it looked sporty, if thats what you could call it looking back I'm laughing. And I went and bought some blue fluffy seatcovers that were all the rage. Bloody nuisance they were, you couldnt get out without looking like a teddy bear with fluff all over ya clothes! I even had one of those stick on things you put at the top of your windscreen to make it look tinted lol, and a go faster stripe I stuck on the side   .............so what was your first car? Was it as embarrassing as mine?
cheekychops

lol my first car was vw passat loved it ,

I do rememer my first car but I'm damned if I can remember the make.  It was yellow -not too bad bodywork but nothihng mechanically wrong. - went like a bird. I lost the ariel at a car wash and my husband put a wire hanger in it's place and said no-one would notice.  That ariel became like a landmark in the town because people used to recognise the car and wave.  Then when the exhaust fell off eventually I got the chance of a very cheap stanless steel exhaust.  I later sold the car for £100 with an advert that stated " stainless steel exhaust £100 - car attached" - I was inundated with calls.

lmao Hannah that's such a funny story its made me smile, I'd forgotten about people using coat hangers for aerials, there were quite a few of them about when I was younger!
chibi_steph18

My first car was and still is a silver Chevrolet Cavalier...except my mom stole it from me, so I can't drive it. Not that I can drive anyways...I almost ran it off a bridge once, lol.

Here's a picture of my first car a '76 DATSUN 210 (except mine was red and more beat up!) Don't laugh!! I was 16, just got my license, worked in an arcade after school and bought it for only $400 bucks!!!

Mind you the passenger seat was breaking (among many other things). I remember this one time I was giving a ride home to my friend, Michelle, and she was sitting in the passenger seat and we were stopped by the police for a seatbelt check....well... as soon as I pulled over the policeman went to check our seatbelts and my friend went to say that she had her seatbelt on and the whole bucket seat just slipped down and away she and it went under the dashboard!!! still promising the cop she was wearing her seatbelt while lying flat on her back!! t'was the funniest thing I ever saw! lmao
kahuna

mine was a 1989 Buick Lesabre!! It was a TANK!   LOL!

My next car after that was a '77 Chevy Monza Spyder....sunflower yellow (brand new paint job) with 8 cylinders and a 350 engine (it orig had a 305 in it but somebody dropped a 350 corvette engine in it)!..what a sweet ride!
It also had a spoiler on the back and a louvre on the back window! Man...that car could haul arse lol but...I did so many stupid things in it tho...like pushing it to 240 km/hr!!! thank gawd I had someone watching over me then ..I was young and foolish...thought I was immortal! Soooo many excessive speeding tickets too!

Here is the closest pic of it I could find of it on google...

knewlove

hehehe...actually I found a pic of me and my b/f at that time with my monza!..lmao...notice the acid wash jeans and scrunchie socks over the jeans!!! Sooooo 80's!!

knewlove

My next car after the monza (and no I didn't total it! - some hit and run driver did while it was parked on the street outside my house! never did find out who

Anyways, my next car was a '82 Ford Mustang GT. Same colour as the pic below except mine had an open blower on top of the hood and a 302 5.0 high output engine...it ran fairly good but would start rattling if I took it over 100 klicks/hr. One day I was showin' off to a friend how fast it could go..and the transmission fell out...just dropped right there and then onto the pavement
knewlove

I really love this topic lol

My neeeeeeeeeext car...lol was a '91 Chevy Sprint and much more economical... I was lucky if I could reach 70 km/hr in it before it started to shake, rattle and roll with it's puny little 3 cylinders lollll. I swear turtles could pass me up a hill!
Mine was similar to the pic below except it was white. I was quite responsible with this one!!! yes I was...but after a couple years the engine started to go and it was running on 2 cylinders...I could barely make 40 clicks/hr let alone pass a vehicle lol...then the muffler went, then the brakes went, then engine gaskets when, then....well you know...
knewlove

Thennnnnnnnnnn I bought my next and current car a '99 Chev Cavalier Coupe... which I still have today...no probs...gawd I love Chevy's!

Mine is exactly the same colour, shape/streamlines as as the one below except it has black racing stripes along the bottom of the doors and aluminum rims

However, it now has almost 250,000 clicks on it so I am considering trading it in for a new chev...maybe a cobalt..

I had A vauxhall cavalier which too had a pink go faster stripe.  My boyf at the time gave it too me for my birthday. It was an A Reg too which i was chuffed about.  It had alloy wheels and a sporty Peco exhaust which was so loud. The exhaust  got even louder when i snapped it in half after an afternoon session of rally driving down the point ( Bumpy old dirt track) with shelley.  We had to drive it home to shells hubby scott and pretend we didnt know why it had broken pmsl !!!!

My first car was a mini  got when I passed my test at the time my daughter was 4yrs old went to pick her from school feeling really confident driving  but when she came out and relised I had the car  she burst into tears and refused to get in !!!!! I had to contact her dad who drove down to the school  she went home in his car ,  it took weeks before she would get in the car with me !!!! talk about knock your confidence  .
Skippy X

my first car was a 1985 Hyundai Pony 1.3GL - no, i weren't exactly street-cred, but hey, it was my first car & only cost £300 from next door neighbour & it absolutely flew when you squeezed the right pedal

my 2nd was a 1985/6 Landrover, not the stupid arse Discovery things, this was a 'proper' Landrover. this was & still is, my favourite car yet. only reason i got rid of it was it was too juicy & was forever filling it with petrol... juicy 'cause it was an absolute beast, 3.5litre V8 engine; just gently squeezing the accelerator & the whole car vibrated with the roar "Vrrrrrrrrroooom!! Vrrrrrroooooom!". boy-racers used to sit next to me at traffic lights in their little fiestas, micras or astras & rev their motors wanting a race... i ain't kidding, the Landrover whooped all their arses, leaving a baffled look on their faces in my rear view mirror "ha ha!!" in fact, the Landy was so pokey, that i actually wheelspun it by accident of tarmac!! amazing fun, just a shame i had to lose it

3rd Skippy mobile was a 1984/5 plate Ford Escort. this was a piece of crap (eg: it had a radio - no cassette player! - & ONE speaker in the middle). i only had it as a temporary car for 6 months til i decided what to get next...

Jan'96 Skippy started a new job & changed car. again an Escort, a 1990 Firefly Ghia. essentially it was the Ghia + it had several extras on top. lovely car. bright (sorry, i mean "radiant") red. had this one about 5 years. nice wagon.

next, went for a smaller car. got a Ford Fiesta. what a piece of sh*t!! had it for about a year. last Ford i've owned.

got rid of that little bugger as p/exchange for the Nissan Primera 2 litre Circuit diesel. sure, again not too street cred, but a solid car. diesel yes, slow? no. this little baby used to shift with the best of them. had a few extras & very comfortable drive. had the car 5 years, apart from me doing regular oil changes, i didn't have it serviced . best thing about the car was the quality, for instance; close the door you'ld hear a solid thud, compared to something like a Citreon, where when you shut the door you get a tinny clunk.

last year changed the Primera for my current baby. 2003 Peugeot 206, 1.4 litre diesel. very basic (no CD player ). it's smallest engine you can get on this model, but it's still very pokey, as very small car. in fact it's so pokey you can even get got speeding like i did christmas eve

i think we;ve got a regional lingo here thats confusing me lol.  pokey to me means small with no room, but it can't mean that on your thread so what does it mean?

lol pokey means quick too
Serenity

Yep as in having a lot of poke

Kris, all of  your cars look so sporty! You've got a wicked streak in you methinks, can just imagine you behind the wheel leaving evryone in your tracks lol

lmao @ skippy wheelspinning a landrover, whatever next!

Poor Julie and her confidence breaking  daughter lol, that must have been embarrassing  bless ya!

I'ts been great reading all your car stories, I've had many cars in my years, all of them second hand, I've had 2 Allegro coupes, and an Allgro estate, which after I'd had the head gasket repaired,  took it to work the next morning about a 15 min drive. Sat there with smoke coming from under the bonnet, uncle had told me there was a bit of oil laying around engine due to work and it would need to burn off. So I sat in work car park, watching smoke, until in the middle of the bonnet, this really spooky weird mountain started erupting, getting bigger and bigger. Turned out, it was the paint on the bonnet burning into a volcano type shape, as my carb had cracked leaking petrol onto the hot exhaust beneath and catching fire!!!! lmfaoooooo I jumped out to see flames coming from underneath, very very scary, hence would never EVER buy an Allegro ever again lol.

After that an Escort mark two, boy was I proud of that heap! It was white, had a skirt round the front, pop rivetted on , a visor on back windshield and a rubber lump fin on the boot. It looked so naffily sporty! lol

A bright orange Fiesta, mine was a heap of crap too Skips. A Carlton, Opal Record, Belmont, to name but a few. One day I'll be rich enough to buy a new car, and it will probably be a mobility scooter because I'll be too old to drive lol

i define 'pokey' as having quick acceleration & comfortable at speedy over-taking.

my mother uses the word 'nippy' alot on small cars, which pretty much means the same thing - as in "i'm going to nip into town"

wow Amber! you had a Zepher. too cool. am i right in saying they're similar to the Ford Zodiac?? i love the Zodiac's classic look, with the tail-fins on the body work, great 60s/70s style
knewlove

lol about the many definitions of 'pokey' but Stephs right..over here it means slow....as in slow poke
Serenity

I think my dad had a Zepher too when we were small...if my memory is right...did they have like a bench seat in the front? Well what I mean is, instead of two seperate seats for passenger and driver, I remember a car we had having one long continuous seat. It was either leather or plastic with piping, it was such a huge cool car, and I'm sure that was a Zepher. I'm sure it was two colours too, like burgundy or something bottom half with a cream top half...ok I'm gonn ahave to go google and see how good my memory is lol
daxxxx

i've never had a car of my own ..but my 1st bike was an old 75cc honda steppy - it was bright, bright orange.. i'll have a google n see if i can find a photo of something similar
Serenity

My first vehicle was a Suzuki FZ50, bright orange too Shirley, and also white or cream. Was a nippy little thing and had automatic gears, all two of them pmsl! It was smart!! This is what Paul swapped me the use of his car for

I remember that , isnt that the one shelley sat on with you and put you both through he fence pmsl !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Serenity

lmfao i think it is, I can vaguely recollect something happening!! The funniest thing was, one day on my way home from work the exhaust broke in half. I didn't know what to do, so I hunted in my work bag and found a piece of old work cloth, so I bandaged the exhaust up to get me home. ( I didn't realise the heat exhausts gave off). Anyway 5 mins down the road I look down to see flames rising between my legs, the rag had caught fire!!! Boy was I embarrassed pmsl other motorists were all staring...so a good tip...never tie your exhaust up with rag or combustials lol
