...they used a similar ploy in the Andrew Lau directed Hong Kong triad flick Young & Dangerous (based on a local hit comic series) where they'd join scenes with comic frames or use them to speed along the plot a bit. though the film didn't feel like a Hollywood or manga based comic-book movie, as was set in the 'real' world.

i watched the 2004 version of The Punisher this morning, i have to say, i actually enjoyed it, sure there are a few crap bits (including John Travolta's acting; he just can't play bad-guys!), but what film's perfect? yes, the critics got it wrong again!
Thomas Jane is cool as Frank Castle & i liked the way the comic-book's skull t-shirt was worked into the movie. Even though this screen adaption has more drama & chracter development, i think, as a whole, i still prefer the 1989 Dolph Lundgren version, even if it did have that annoying alcoholic/poet/informer character.
i must admit, i'm a sucker for revenge movies!! _________________ "make a house a home" |

I saw that when it came out Skip and I enjoyed it too, haven't seen the 1989 Dolph Lundgren version, so can't compare it _________________ Shelley xx |

| Perhaps the worst of all movies to come from a great comic was Judge Dredd with Sly Stallone .. I loved the comic and man if I paid to see it in a Cinema I would have asked for my money back... |

One forgot to mention very worth seeing is Road to Perdition
It was a great film and I didn't realize until after I saw it that it was based on a graphic novel... |

that's the problem with comics/graphic novels being adapted for the big screen, if you love the original media then chances are that the screen version won't live up to expectations. it's the same with novels, i know alot of Lord Of The Rings book fans slagged off the movie, but it's a movie - not a book, it's made for entertaining the people (such as myself) who can't find the time or effort to read such a dense work.
the Judge Dredd movie i actually saw at the cinema, i found it entertaining, but kinda crap & predictable in places. though not a comic reader, i'm aware of the death judges (is that their name??) & think they could've made it much darker. two things i didn't like with the flick; Rob Scheider's comedy relief character should've been omitted from the entire film & think an unknown actor would've been more suited to the titular role. _________________ "make a house a home" |

Azumi was great! Another movie adaptation of a manga series is Shinobi: Heart Under Blade. It's subtitled, too. It's about two lovers who are from warring tribes and they both end up the leaders of their villages and end up having to fight one another...its a sad love story with plenty of action. I'd have to say my favorite movie from comics is V for Vendetta. I love V! He was so awesome! _________________ Sometimes I don't think birds are really talking to each other. yes Serenity, i maybe wrong, but i'm pretty sure he's a comic character (from Marvel i think??)
there are so many comic characters that most non-comic readers haven't heard of, so as long as they keep making bucks i guess we'll be seeing alot more. i think the Nicolas Cage flick Ghost Rider was another recent one?? _________________ "make a house a home" |
